1. Identify the main user journey
Describe the most useful task a user should complete in the app, from opening it to getting a result. List the screens and data required for that journey.
2. Choose the initial scope
Prioritise the features required for that first useful release. Messaging, notifications, offline access, payments, and media uploads can each add dependencies that need planning.
3. Plan the backend
Apps often depend on APIs, authentication, databases, and an admin panel. Decide where the information will come from and how roles and access should work.
4. Prepare for release
Include device testing, app icons, store descriptions, privacy information, and ownership of developer accounts in the release checklist. Store review and third-party setup should be considered in the timeline.
